Rovescio della Medaglia — La Bibbia - 50th Anniversary

 Fifty years ago a young Italian progressive rock band Rovescio della Medaglia released their debut album La Bibbia (The Bible) on Italian major RCA. This concept album of heavy prog rock earned them the name of the Italian Black Sabbath. Drawing inspiration from the Old Testament, the tracks progress from “Nothingness,” “The Creation,” “The Warning,” ”Sodom X Y,” “Judgement Day,” to “The Great Flood.” In 2021 Rovescio della Medaglia decided to re-record, re-arrange, and re-release their classic album, including three bonus tracks with English lyrics: “The Creation,” “The Warning,” and “Judgement Day.” Bombastic, aggressive Italian prog rock with inspired guitar solos, rich Hammond organ runs, and emotive singing abound. Having never heard the original, I have no baseline for comparison. Suffice it to say, if you are a fan of 70s Italian prog rock, you will not be disappointed. You would not have an inkling that Rovescio della Medaglia is fifty years old — they perform music with the same exuberance as twenty year olds. If you have never experienced Rovescio della Medaglia, La Bibbia - 50th Anniversary is a great place to start.
