Peter Daltrey — The Leopard and the Lamb
(Bandcamp Think Like a Key TLAK1166, 2023, CD / LP / DL)

The Leopard and the Lamb Cover art

Peter Daltrey’s new solo album is The Leopard and the Lamb, an interesting album with its Urbex artwork that accompanies the twelve mysterious and intermittently dreamy psychedelic prog rock rock songs. The album starts a bit slow, but by the fourth track, “The Man Who Had it All,” Daltrey is hitting on all cylinders with this David Bowie influenced song. I also note some similarities to the Softhearted Scientists (“The Time of Trees”), and even some Gilli Smyth-esque space whispering on “The Spirits of Hyde Park,” though all of the songs are uniquely Peter Daltrey compositions. Slow mournful piano passages, surreal soundscapes, Mellotron, and melodica interweave over fifty four minutes. The title track closes the album with a subtle New Wave vibe interacting with this dark and sad composition. Written and produced by Peter Daltrey, The Leopard and the Lamb is truly an example of an independent artist pursuing his muse, composing, playing, and recording music that pleases him, which continues to prove that a true psychedelic spirit is timeless. The Leopard and the Lamb is more than just a new album — it is a journey through and down the rabbit hole  of rock history, guided by one of its most enduring Mad Hatter explorers.
