Mula — Resiliente
(Dur et Doux DD-048, 2017, LP / DL)

by Henry Schneider, Published 2021-08-30

Resiliente Cover art On May 7, 2021 French label Dur et Doux reissued Mula’s 2017 album Resiliente on vinyl. Dur et Doux is a label that specializes in difficult music and Resiliente is no exception. This is a noisy album powered by distorted guitars, drums, bass, electronics, and woodwinds, all swirled together in a radical anarchistic sludge that tests the listener’s resilience to sonic bombardment. The one quiet moment occurs on “Ataraxia” with its Spanish diatribe on the guacamole of a Frenchman. Very strange indeed. Noisy free jazz is not my thing, and the older I get, the less patience I have for this kind of assault on my senses. I think that it was quite risky for Dur et Doux to reissue this album on vinyl as there is probably a very narrow segment of people who would get off on the anti-patriarchal, anti-aesthetic, and anti-conformist music of this Colombian band Mula. Approach with caution.
