Mirrir — Aentity

Aentity Cover art

Mirrir is the brainchild of audio artist and art fantasist OO. So is his name pronounced “Oh-Oh” or “oooo”? Who knows. His intense stare only adds to the mystery. OO’s debut album as Mirrir, Aentity, is 30 minutes of brooding analog synths and keyboards. Other words that come to mind are somber, mysterious, foreboding, demonic, sinister, dark, and depressing. Upper register organ tones float over cavernous rumbling bass chords with occasional violin, piano, sweeping sequencers, and distorted voices. Definitely conveying his maverick vision of things seen and unseen. There is some variation from track to track while OO maintains his musical vision where time slows. But even at 30 minutes, the music starts to wear thin. There is only so much of OO’s dark vision that you can take at one sitting. Aentity is one of those albums best taken in small doses or as background music. None of the six tracks reaches out and grabs me. I would not recommend this album if you suffer from depression or have suicidal thoughts. But its haunting atmosphere may be just right for Halloween.
