Robert Fripp has put out word that the time has come for the beast that is King Crimson to be reincarnated. The eighth incarnation of King Crimson will be Gavin Harrison, Bill Rieflin, Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, Mel Collins, Jakko Jakszyk and Robert Fripp.

In case you're counting, that is two guitars (Fripp and Jakszyk), one bass (Levin), one woodwind (Collins), and three drummers (Harrison, Rieflin, Mastelotto). So if nothing else, this Crim will sound like no other Crim before it. No other band on the planet, for that matter. Long-time fans might miss the presence of Adrian Belew and Bill Bruford, but there's no shortage of talent to go around with those that will be in the band.
We might look to A Scarcity of Miracles , the 2011 release from Fripp, Jakszyk and Collins, which featured Harrison and Levin as guests and was subtitled A King Crimson ProjeKct. Apparently they weren't kidding, since that's the new line-up with only one drummer.
But don't hold your breath — the band won't be seeing the light of day until sometime in 2014.
