Jack Dupon — La République Dominicale du Zoo
(Bandcamp no#, 2021, CD / LP / DL)

La République Dominicale du Zoo Cover art

The unique Jack Dupon returns with a new album, La République Dominicale du Zoo, a collection of five tracks that, for me, is the most accessible music they have produced.  The five pieces are the band’s glimpses into little worlds fitting into a larger picture designed to help relationships with other people.  This is the first time the band composed the music for an album before trying it out live in concerts.  Consequently they show more restraint, which is most likely why it is more approachable.  Each of the five pieces was conducted by a different band member, which is also unlike the collective madness of their previous work.  Their signature harsh dissonant sound features prominently amidst various elements like Talking Heads, dub, African rhythms, and squelchy electronics.  Definitely a new chapter in the life of this growing and maturing band of musical anarchists.  Recommended for fans of raucous dissonance that can be slightly disturbing.
