Fuchsia — Barrett's Allsorts
(Fruits de Mer crustacean 94, 2020, 7")

Barrett's Allsorts Cover art

COVID-19 has certainly caused all kinds of havoc these past twelve months. In the present case, Fuchsia was scheduled to travel from Australia and perform at the 18th Dream of Dr. Sardonicus Fesitval in Wales in August 2020. And for one of the Festival treats, Fruits de Mer and Tony Durant agreed to offer a very limited lathe-cut 7-inch to attendees — about 50 copies. This single included Fuchsia’s cover of “See Emily Play” from FdM’s A Band for All Seasons and an exclusive cover of Pink Floyd’s “Bike.” Of course the COVID lock down changed everything, so FdM offered the lathe-cuts to FdM club members. The demand was so massive that FdM then chose to release the 7-inch on vinyl with a total run of 400 copies worldwide in November 2020. And those have sold out as well. The music is a wonderful tribute to Syd Barrett. “See Emily Play” is an excellent reinterpretation of this iconic Pink Floyd tune and even includes a string quartet. Fuschia’s cover of “Bike” is also excellent, with a fast tempo, lots of sound effects, bells, and clanging bikes. And if you were not one of the lucky ones to grab a copy, you can at least listen to an excerpt of Fuchsia’s “See Emily Play” on YouTube.
