Dream Child — Torn Between Two Worlds
(Brennus BR 8010-AR, 1996, CD)

by Mike Grimes, Published 1997-05-01

Torn Between Two Worlds Cover art

Dream Child would be a good progressive metal band if they had any progressive leanings. However, they seem quite content playing 240 bpm, wall of guitar and double bass drum, straight beat 4/4 hard rock. (OK, there is a power ballad or two.) For this style of music, the band is pretty damn good! Vocalist Gerard Fois has an amazing range and sounds like Jeff Keith of Tesla and performs interval acrobatics a la Merciful Fate's own King Diamond, skipping between octaves no problem. Fois is also credited with playing keyboards on the album, but plays an average of about two notes per song from the sounds of it. Guitarist Dominique Leurquin basically shreds. Even during the guitar solos, the guitar is still the dominant backing instrument. The bass and drums are standard hard rock / heavy metal fare — fast and steady. If you enjoy good Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, this is for you. This album is not recommended for those with pacemakers.
