Curtarock Festival is an annual live musical event since 2011 in Curtarolo, Italy, in 2024 spanning five nights, from Wednesday July 24 through Sunday July 28. On the 2023 debut album, Desolation and Radiation, Delrei was the instrumental solo project of Alessandro Mercanzin, who played all of the instruments (guitars, bass, drums, everything!); obviously to pull this off in a live setting, additional musicians need to be added, so Friday night at Curtarock, Mercanzin played guitar and harmonica, while Giovanni Beghetto handled the drum kit and Davide Dalla played bass, all opening for Bosco Sacro and California band The Black Heart Procession. Delrei‘s style could be conveniently categorized as instrumental Spaghetti Western soundtrack music, a sound so authentic you can taste the desert dust in your mouth, and the trio makes it happen with splendid success, full of brilliant energy and power — and in fact it was the trio’s debut live performance, executed with precision and perfection. The set list pretty much mirrors the studio debut, same songs (minus two cuts) in the same order, with one new number, “Get Lost Blues,” added at the very end of the set, perhaps a sneak peek of what’s to come on the second studio album, currently in the works. There’s even a YouTube video of one of the tracks in the set “Nowhere to Ride,” at the link below, or if you’re up for it, the entire set can be seen, and of course if you like, the album is available for a very good price at Projekt’s Bandcamp site.
