David A is a seasoned independent blues rock musician from Clearwater, Florida. His new album Lit is on his artist-run Mediavenger label, showcasing his blues rock vitriol through its ten tracks. The album kicks off with the hard-hitting “If I’m So Strange” that evokes comparisons to Link Wray and his signature tune “Rumble.” Tracks such as the calm urban cool of “Glamour Stain” reached #4 on KOR Radio’s UK chart and the country blues “Prodigal Bastard” reached #13 Radio Indie Alliance world-wide top 75 chart. Lit is a cohesive album of gritty down and dirty blues rock with a gothic streak that raises its head on the rocking “Balustrade” and “My Dark Love.” Looking at the credits, it appears that David’s major contributions, in addition to the song writing, are vocals, keyboards on “Prodigal Bastard,” and rhythm guitar on “Just Ask Gloria.” To round things out, he enlisted George Harris (electric and acoustic guitars, pedal steel guitar, and sitar, though I didn’t notice a sitar), Robert Wegman (bass), and Angelo Collura (drums). Though hailing from Florida, there is an occasional mid-western vibe ala John Mellencamp running through the album. David is a bit of an outsider and fancies himself as outside looking away, not inwards. He looks as America and sees what happens when a country forgets how to rock. If you are ready to kick out the jams and rock hard, you will find enjoyment in Lit.
