Supposedly the first show of their reunion and it shows, I saw them earlier this year, and that show was much much better than this disc, but I'll give 'em a break. They're one of my favorite of late 60s psych groups, a pioneering proto-electronics using rock group with female vocals (not to mention their uncanny similarity to early Gong). I'm glad they’re back, playing music from the great Cauldron and new songs in the same spirit. I think, considering only Cork Marcheschi remains from the original group and considering how good they are now, that this is a passable performance. Elizabeth Perry, who at times is the bay area's answer to Gilli Smyth, may have had a bad night, as she was remarkable at the SF show mentioned earlier. "If Not This Time," "The Rose," "God Bless the Child," "Red the Sign Post," and "Cauldron" are all a bit rough here, so if you're unfamiliar with the group, I'd check out Cauldron first as this is probably mainly of interest to collectors. Another one of Captain Trip's sketchy live CDs, they shouldn't have jumped the gun on this one, yet the band is still a must for psych rock fans.
