Pungo was a rag-tag crew of Japanese avant-gardists led by Yuriko Mukojima (accordion, keyboards, violin, vocals), who later would work with Lars Hollmer in his Global Home Project. The group existed in the early 80s and also featured Masami Shinoda (saxophone), along with various drummers, guitarists, and others, some of whom were decidedly amateur. Their music was erratic and loose, applying a punk attitude to jazz, classical, and traditional music.
