Drummer, composer and performer, Dave King was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he began studying piano and drums at an early age. He developed his musical voice playing in adventurous school ensembles before moving briefly to New York in 1989, then Los Angeles in 1991, returning to Minneapolis to pursue an eclectic and prolific career in creative music.
He co-founded several genre-defying groups including Happy Apple, Love-Cars, Halloween, Alaska, and The Gang Font (featuring Greg Norton of Hüsker Dü), and in 2000 co-founded the internationally acclaimed trio The Bad Plus. As a collaborator, Dave has worked with artists such as Bill Frisell, Joshua Redman, Tim Berne, Jeff Beck, Joe Lovano, Craig Taborn, and Atmosphere, and has performed across 75 countries on six continents.
