Eddie Henderson (born October 26, 1940) is an American jazz trumpet and flugelhorn player. His musical journey begain in earnest when at the age of 17 he played with Miles Davis, who was a friend of his parents, though he went forward with his education in non-musical areas. He graduated with a medical degree from Howard University in 1968, and continued to work as a doctor while pursuing a musical career. From 1970-1973 he was a part of Herbie Hancock's groundbreaking Mwandishi group, and recorded as a leader himself. Since the 90s, he has worked more in a traditional acoustic realm; he has been a faculty member of the Juilliard music school since 2007 and is Associate Professor of Trumpet at the Oberlin Conservatory jazz department since 2014.
