Cactus is a blues rock band formed in 1969 by bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice of Vanilla Fudge. The initial lineup included Jim McCarty (guitar) and Rusty Day (vocals). This version of the band lasted until 1972 and recorded three albums; a fourth album featured Bogert and Appice with Werner Fritzschings (guitar), Duane Hitchings (keyboards), and Peter French (vocals). After the group's dissolution, Bogert and Appice teamed up with Jeff Beck for Beck, Bogert & Appice, which resulted in two studio albums (only one of which was ever released) and a live album. Various other members of the band subsequently worked in different projects, sometimes using the word Cactus in their names. Cactus proper finally reformed in 2006 with Appice, Bogert, and McCarty were joined by Savory Brown's Jimmy Kunes on lead vocals. The group has existed with varying members since then. Bogert retired from the band in 2008 and died in 2021; McCarty ceased touring in 2017 due to health issues.
