Randy California RIP

Take a moment of silence for guitarist / songwriter / singer Randy California, founding member of Spirit, who drowned just moments after saving his 12 year old son from being carried away by a riptide on the island of Molokai on Thursday January 2nd.

by Peter Thelen, Published 1997-02-01

California was responsible for penning many of Spirit’s best known songs, including “I Got a Line on You,” “Nature’s Way,” and “1984.” His guitar style was his own and influenced many who followed. Spirit was scheduled to start a three month European tour beginning in January ‘97. Rest in peace, Randy, you will be missed.
