A two-on-one CD, featuring Swedish Grammy winner Lugumleik and latest Skalv, it's obvious we're dealing with veterans here (the musicians here primarily hail from the bands Groupa and Filarfolket). Yes, there are a lot of Swedish folk influences at play here, but the overall sound is very contemporary, with a lot of rock and jazz thrown into the mix, as well as a pop sensibility. While the majority of the groups on the NorthSide label portray a very up-front folk sound, Den Fule seems more interested in bringing the heritage up to date. You can recognize the melodies as being influenced by folk tradition, yet the instrumentation is strongly contemporary, bringing a wide variety of moods and feels. It's done with a lot of class and sophistication, the songs from both albums show Den Fule as a band to watch for.
